hi!
this week, i only have a roundup of links to send out. thanksgiving is guaranteed to almost always be contentious, so i’ve gathered a few things to keep Palestine in mind over the long weekend as well as some distractions for when you need to mentally get away from the dinner table.
boycott black friday. buy e-sims for gaza instead
it’s not a coincidence that the united states brokered a “pause” in the genocide in gaza to coincide with thanksgiving and black friday. resist the urge to shop this year, save your cash (the deals are garbage anyway), and don’t let your solidarity waver over the four-day long weekend. the genocide will resume on monday, and we need to keep calling and sending emails to our politicians to let them know this pause is not enough to secure our votes in 2024.
if you know a bad faith argument will likely come up at the table, here’s a refresher:
tomorrow, on black friday, i’ll be buying an e-sim or two and sending them to gazans desperately in need of internet access. i hope that you can do the same. i’m following the guides below for instructions:
if you need audio for distraction, this episode from matt bernstein’s a bit fruity podcast was excellent at shedding light on israel’s attempts at pinkwashing their country’s image to the west, all the while promoting disturbing homonationalism.
at the same time that all this is happening i’ve found it even more imperative than usual to carve out space for my mind to focus on something else, something other than 30 second clips of devastation on instagram and infographics and text posts. i want to stay informed but i need my brain to function, too, and there’s been several days in the last two months where i’ve driven myself into a paralysis after being online for too long.
i’m limiting the amount of time i spend on instagram and making a concerted effort to read long form content or lighthearted blogs. my favourite for years has been mcmansion hell, a long running tumblr blog dedicated to chronicling mcmansions across the united states and all that is wrong with them, architecturally speaking. i’ve also found my way (via rfq) to evil female, a sensual and beautiful blog of personal essays kind of about how to live your life. i’m making my way through the archive and can’t recommend it enough.
as always, thank you for being here and thank you for the messages of support after my last post. see u soon
